Biography

The Spanish pianist Álvaro Campos Jareño, born in Seville in 1989, made his debut as soloist with the Leipziger Symphonieorchester in 2011, performing Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op.54.

Since then, he has given several solo and chamber music concerts as well as concertos, among others: Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at the Great Hall of the Gewandhaus Leipzig with the Leipziger Universitätsorchester, conducted by Raphael Haeger; Saint-Saëns’s The Carnival of the Animals for two pianos with the Philharmonie Leipzig at the Kupfersaal (Leipzig), conducted by Michael Köhler; he also performed at the Porsche Arena Stuttgart und Arena Leipzig with the Philharmonie Leipzig and the band Evanescence.

In 2016 he played Schumann’s Introduction and Concert-Allegro, Op. 134 at the Great Hall of the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Great Hall of the University of Music and Theatre «Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy» Leipzig with the Leipziger Hochschulsinfonieorchester, conducted by Matthias Foremny. The live concert at Gewandhaus was recorded by Genuin classics.

Alvaro Campos gave many solo recitals, e.g. at Mendelssohn-Haus, Schumann-Haus, Villa Najork, Sächsische Landesanstalt and Piano Centrum (Leipzig), Kulturort (Krölpa), Teatro de la Maestranza and Sala Blas Infante (Seville), Auditorio Eduardo del Pueyo and Centro Cívico Universidad (Zaragoza), Centro Cultural Alfredo Kraus and Sala Toccata en A (Madrid) and Conservatorio de Música Narciso Yepes (Lorca); as well as chamber music concerts at Orchesterzentrum (Dortmund), Mendelssohn-Remise (Berlin), Mendelssohn-Haus (Leipzig), Paraninfo Universidad and Sede Social Caja Inmaculada  (Zaragoza), Sede Social Ibercaja (Zaragoza and Guadalajara), Fundación Eutherpe (León).

The Andalusian pianist started playing the piano with Ester Coll Rivas and José Antonio Coso Martínez at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música «Francisco Guerrero» (Seville), finishing with honors in piano and composition. After working for two years with the Norwegian pianist Benedicte Palko, he entered the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón where he studied piano with Iván Cítera and chamber music with Humberto Armas, completing his Bachelor’s degree. In 2011 he moved to Leipzig, where he earned his Master of Music in Performance and his Master of Music in Performance Pedagogy at the University of Music and Theatre «Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy» Leipzig under Prof. Markus Tomas, postgraduating with distinction.

He has taken part in Masterclasses with Robert Levin, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Andrzej Jasinski, Jacques Rouvier, Josep María Colom, Claudio Martínez Mehner, Nino Kereselidze, Ana Guijarro, Daniel del Pino, Alexander Kandelaki, Alain Meunier and Xavier Gagnepain.

Alvaro Campos also was awarded First Prize at «IX Certamen Nacional de Piano Veguellina de Órbigo» and «VI Certamen Andaluz de Música Muñoz Molleda». In addition, he won the “Ad Infinitum Foundation” and “Deutschlandstipendium” scholarships during his studies in Leipzig.

At present he teaches piano at the Music School of Leipzig “Johann Sebastian Bach” and the Music School “Clara Schumann” (Leipzig), having taught the children of the world’s prestigious Thomanerchor (St. Thomas Choir) at the Bachakademie Leipzig.
